to Sustainability
We believe that luxurious indulgence can be achieved without compromising the principles of sustainable ecotourism. To this end, Pool House Bellingen has been carefully curated to provide our guests with the utmost in comfort while continuing to work towards lowering our
ecological footprint.
The complete renovation and refurbishment of the original ‘shed’ has incorporated passive solar principles. Windows have been used to capture the winter sun, while ensuring a cross breeze through louvres in the warmer months. The large deck and awnings and clever use of insulation (including underfloor and wall insulation), work to minimise heat in summer. Solar blinds have been fitted to western windows, again to reduce heat in warmer months.
The shed’s original Oregon timber beams, trusses and stairs have been restored and, in many cases, upcycled to create the timber vanity, kitchen island bench and kitchen shelving.
Poolhouse is primarily solar powered, with grid backup to ensure reliability. All appliances have been chosen to meet high electrical energy rating standards. Solar power is utilised to filter the mineral plunge pool.
All water is supplied from our rainwater tanks and filtered to the Poolhouse for your safety. A reed bed septic system has been incorporated, which is fully contained, odour free and environmentally friendly.
We are committed to a shop local ethos. We have sourced most fittings and appliances locally and all food items are sourced in the wonderful stores in Bellingen.
Organic farming principles are maintained in our gardening and food production. We collect all food waste for the purpose of compost production.
